As usual the event was extremely well organised and lead by Philip Smithies with the help of a dedicated team of volunteers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"m8h3af8h l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Judges- <span class=\"rse6dlih\">Glyn Coupar<\/span> and <span class=\"rse6dlih\">Paul Hasney<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Chief Steward &#8211; Michael O&#8217;Hanlon<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Gundog organisers &#8211; Philip Smithies and Bronwyn Roberts assisted by Joan Heyes and Joyce Smithies.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Thirteen teams of 3 representing gundog clubs and societies from all parts of the country started day 1 of this 2 day test feeling excited and with a little trepidation at what lay in store for them.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Some competitors had run in the individual competition the previous day. This did not give them an advantage as Michael O&#8217;Hanlon used a different piece of ground.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The 3 team members all competed at the same time in a 3 dog walk up.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Each member had two marks in front a blind behind and then a mark in front on the river.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The natural bunkers soon tested the handler and dog. Good marking and the ability to run in a straight line was the order of the day.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Unfortunately for some the blind retrieve proved a challenge with some dogs loosing many points or recording a zero.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">At the end of day 4 handlers out of 39 returned a perfect score of 80 to be joint best individual.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">In the order (highest scores) at the end of day<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">232 &#8211; Dove Valley Working Gundog Club<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">232 &#8211; Midland Counties Labrador Retriever Club<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">220 &#8211; Pennine Training Area<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">215 &#8211; Midland Gundog Society<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">214 &#8211; South Eastern Gundog Society<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">212 &#8211; Three Ridings Labrador Club<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">209 &#8211; Northern Golden Retriever Association<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">207 &#8211; United Retriever Club (North Midland Area)<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">202 &#8211; Clwyd Retriever Club<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">200 &#8211; Eastern Counties Retriever Society<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">194 &#8211; Lancashire &amp; Merseyside Field Trial Society<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">190 &#8211; Burns and Becks Gundog Club<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">181 &#8211; Dukeries (Notts) Gundog Club<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Well done to all competitors.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">We look forward to day 2.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div class=\"m8h3af8h l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The 2nd day of the inter club test commenced with all 39 competitors having 2 retrieves, a blind and a mark.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Today all of the action took place in front of the grandstand which was full to capacity. This placed extra pressure on the competitors, some had not competed in an arena with so many members of the public watching their every move and listening to their commands.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The format was the same as the previous day, all 3 team members in line.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The first dog was sent across the river for a marked retrieve in thick bracken, when it had picked and delivered to hand another dog was sent across the river for the blind which was also in bracken on the riverbank.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">This sequence was maintained until the 3 team members had either succesfully completed their retrieve or attempted a retrieve but were called up by the judges. The marked retrieve proved the undoing for a number of experienced dogs and seasoned handlers.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">At the end of the tests two dogs had scored maximum points. The runners up award was presented to Craig Jackson.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"l7ghb35v kjdc1dyq kmwttqpk gh25dzvf jikcssrz n3t5jt4f\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The organiser of the Working Tests <span class=\"rse6dlih\">Philip Smithies<\/span> presented a special prize to the dog which was his choice over the two days. It was held at Green Quarries Shooting Ground nr Wigton in Cumbria. The hosts this year were Burns &amp; Becks who put on a very well organised day with challenging tests. So massive thanks go out to their committee who worked so hard to ensure that the day went smoothly. We were also treat to a wonderful buffet after the tests had finished. The weather was very kind to us with plenty of sunshine and everyone was in good spirits.
